The importance of the Engagement photoshoot

Every shot returns the beauty and dignity of every moment, making it lasting forever. Just a single moment of your private life – that is the best scenario to capture the emotions and feelings of a couple.

Even a simple engagement can be the perfect scenario for that, not only marriage.

You are a couple in your everyday life, months and years before the “Yes, I do”. You are a couple when you choose your partner every day when you face the troubles together when you make compromises and pursue a path named “life”. A couple can capture their memories before the “I do”.

Those shots will remind them of what makes them choose to share a life together for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, for now, forever, for always.

Between light and dark in the Montesenario woods in Florence

That’s what I aimed to do with Vera e Luca – playing with the lights and shadows of the magical locations we saw. As a dance where the music is the complicity.

The Montesenario sanctuary is our first scenario. It is one of Tuscany’s most important sanctuaries. You can reach it by taking a path that crosses the Fiesole countryside and the Mugello’s mountains.

The sanctuary itself is a panoramic turret overviewing the green valley.

The welcoming feeling of a religious silence is almost tangible, maybe because of the presence of the monks.

Its 18th Century porch is this beautiful couple’s second stage. Only the columns and arches of the porch are still there, included in the front wall and the clock tower.

Vera and Luca are into music and travels, two of my main passions. Maybe that helped us a lot to connect ourselves to the point where I told them about my last trip to Bosnia.

When I can feel such a connection between me and the couple, it’s a simple game.

From the Montesenario convent’s park to that of Villa Demidoff

We reach Villa Demidoff – a wonderland wanted by Francesco I de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany.

Carelessness and time have taken away its 16th-century wonders; we can only imagine the Medici Villa with its two Italian-style gardens full of sculptures, statues, pools with water features, labyrinths, and caves.

A dreamlike place where nature and mythology used to meet.

The enchantment of a powerful nature is still there with its huge green spaces, woods, meadows and the wonderful giant of the Apennines, a work by Giambologna. There is still the Cupid’s cave, the Mugnone’s fountain and the chapel, designed by Buontalenti, plus the stables.

It was wonderful to make Vera and Luca dance in the shadows and lights here.

They were so spontaneous and true, they let themselves be carried away and allowed me to capture these moments in one shot.

Yeah, because the groom in question is my cousin who has decided to share with the cousins and their companions this day.

After the classic meeting in Autogrill with a lot of breakfast, we left for the Val d’Orcia.

Val d’Orcia is an enchanted place

Enchanting place where nature and culture form a unique union, making it a heritage of humanity.

Composed of five municipalities Castiglione d’Orcia, Montalcino, Pienza, Radicofani and San Quirico d’Orcia. The Val d’Orcia is presented to our eyes with gentle hills covered by a dense vegetation of vineyards, olive groves, cypresses, beech and chestnut woods. Interrupted by ancient villages of medieval origin, rural houses and fortresses with impervious towers that are dispersed in the isolated and peaceful nature of the places.

Pienza the ideal city

Our first stop was in one of the five municipalities: Pienza, defined as the ideal city. As it reflects the idea of a Renaissance city in which man and nature live in harmony and Pienza seems to approach this utopian model.

Pienza is located in a strategic position, perched on top of a hill overlooking the Val d’Orcia and has a breathtaking view.

As soon as we arrived we immediately started with the first shots, the walls of this city are really suggestive.

From Palazzo Piccolomini to the small streets of Pienza

After the small climb that runs along the walls in front of us, Piazza Pio II opens up. It has a form of great harmony that gives great dignity and solemnity to all the surrounding buildings, built of travertine stone, which gives them a clear honey color. On one side of the square, you can admire a beautiful well, known as the “well of dogs”, the Duomo with the beautiful octagonal bell tower that rises above the ancient crypt pointing straight to the sky. To the right of the Cathedral is the imposing Palazzo Piccolomini with a fantastic loggia and a wonderful hanging garden from which you can admire a truly unique panorama over the entire Orcia valley, from Montalcino to the volcanic Monte Amiata. Even the square has been the subject of numerous shots but even more beautiful was lost in the alleys of Pienza and be able to capture this love story between the shadows of the stones and the rays that filtered.

From Pienza to Bagnovignoni

The weather at the beginning seems to want to play bad jokes and hunger began to be felt for which we moved to Bagno Vignoni, the only hamlet of San Quirino d’Orcia. At the center of the village is the Piazza Delle Sorgenti, a rectangular bathtub from the sixteenth century that still contains a source of hot thermal water. The water that flows from the spring at a depth of 1000 meters goes back to the surface and is collected in the town square. The water temperature, fixed at 52 ° degrees, creates extraordinary scenographic effects, especially in winter, when it comes into contact with cold air. Here after a beautiful family lunch full of anecdotes and fresh laughter, we made some shots aboard the tub.

All around, stone houses, flowered balconies, squares, workshops of artists and craftsmen, which create an extraordinary architectural ensemble. After a short visit to the streams of steaming water that flow along the city, drawing sinuous paths where you can dip your hands and feet, we are moving towards a new destination.

The Chapel of Vitaleta, San Quirico d’Orcia and its cypresses

We went to the Chapel of Our Lady of Vitaleta. Along the way, we crossed a level crossing and immediately I got the inspiration. Francesco and Cristina met on the train so why not take some pictures? With the help of my drone, I made a little surprise to Francesco and Cristina making a short film on the rails that is the intro to this slideshow that you are about to see. Giunti the Chapel, after walking a dirt road surrounded by fields of wheat still green, we continued our service by making numerous shots and shots from above.

Our tour ended in the cypress and symbolic place of the area.

A day certainly rich not only of places that are the setting for this service but also of emotions. Being able to work surrounded by love and family has made this service unique in its kind.

The story of Diana and Gianluca is the story of different cultures and traditions that merge to give life to a tight couple and a disarming sweetness, from the first shots you can see their complicity and their sweet smiles.

Between Switzerland, Japan and Italy

Diana is a girl who grew up in Lugano but of Swiss-Japanese origin, Swiss father and Japanese mother. Gianluca instead is of Tuscan origin. Both live and work in Zurich where they met.

Lugano and its lake are a wonderful place for a photoshoot

Their engagement was held in Lugano. The first day we chose Gandria, a small village overlooking the lake. Where after a series of steps we found ourselves directly on the shore of the lake. The village can be reached through a path that runs along the lake very impressive and not too demanding

In Gandria I decided to use one more resource: my drone. This allowed a different perspective but also a unique memory for Diana and Gianluca.

After Gandria we moved to the small church of San Giorgio, from there we can enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Lugano. And finally, we completed the service in the Parco Ciani, also called the Parco di Lugano because it is right in the city center.

The icing on the cake, the Japanese dinner

To make this trip even more special was the welcome of Diana’s family. In fact, I had the honor to have dinner at their home while enjoying a typical dish of Japanese culture based on Teppanyaki and Miso soup.

A couple of travelers.

Roberta and Andrea are a happy go-round couple of travelers, with a lot of funny stories about their journeys, something which immediately connected us.

Their engagement took place at Lake Massaciuccoli. An unknown area to me, which I immediately appreciated, though.

Music, art, nature…

an enchanted and uncontaminated place, a reserve of art and culture. The lake of Massaciuccoli is located in the hills of Massarosa, in Lucca. This magical place is effectively able to envelop you in a wonderful mix of feelings, caused by its rich and varied flora and fauna.

Entering nature through the Lipu Oasis walkways.

Among its peculiarities we find the Lipu Oasis walkway. A wooden walkway which almost makes people feel like they’re hovering over the water, being totally immersed in vegetation. The perfect setting to tell this love story. Indeed, for a long time the lake was the home of master Giacomo Puccini, which had a great love for this land for his entire life. Such love inspired so many of his famous works. The serenity of this place, the sound of canes in the wind, the rustling of this uncontaminated place, have all helped into giving life to eternal melodies. So, almost casually, paying homage to another great love equal to that of Master Puccini for this site, we stopped by for some shots next to the Puccini Theatre. Built on water, in this theatre his operas are brought to life during summer.
In the end, love has a thousand ways of expressing itself, whether it is an enchanting landscape or the mutual, complicit and spiritual love that Roberta and Andrea have and, hopefully, will have forever.

A rainy day will not compromise your love!

It was a Wednesday like so many lately, gloomy, with the sun being hard to get a glimpse at, indeed, with rain dominating the scene. But unexpectedly, as only life can do in preparing certain meetings for you. I found that ray of sunshine on the sixth floor, in the attic of a condominium on the outskirts of Florence. Here after 6 floors of stairs I entered the house with my heart in my throat, a bit for the effort. Let’s say I’m not really an athlete, and a little bit for emotions. and then because it is always a great responsibility to be able to capture in a picture all the feelings I get personally and due to my couples.

A small paradise on the sixth floor of a condominium

I entered a small apartment surrounded by nature, this because from the sixth floor you can see all the green surrounding Florence. The furniture, the 60s tiles, the wooden ceiling, the windows, made this service unique. I enjoyed telling their story starting from their home.

Opening the door for me Nicole and Cosimo, a couple I had felt affinity with from the first meeting. In their flat I found all their history, their love … and it was easy to tell all of this in one click. I made myself invisible in their intimacy and they made me slip, real deep, inside a game of tender lovers who find themselves in a pillow fight, or in the simplicity of being stretched out on the sofa, sharing little everyday secrets. Normal gestures, immortalized.

The complicity with Nicole and Cosimo led us to share lunch time too.

From the outskirts of Florence to the Chianti countryside

Immediately after lunch we left for Chianti, where we found an incredible location between Castellina in Chianti and San Donato in Poggio which seemed to float above the clouds like a lunar landscape, and actually in these photos Nicole and Cosimo seem swallowed by the fog, lightly supported by the strength of their love. We finished the service where my father grew up, a few miles from Siena, in San Leonino, here it was like giving a piece of my story.

This is my way of seeing and describing a pregnancy photo shoot.

It is not the usual service where the subject is the belly but it is a service focusing on the family, on the beauty of this moment of waiting.

Waiting for a Sister precisely because I wanted to narrate the story of this little girl’s expectation from the sister’s point of view.

I would like to infinitely thank this family that allowed me to create and narrate their story, I’m going to report below on one of the greatest satisfaction of this work, that is, the mother’s feedback:

Francesca: “I’m crying like a little girl watching the slideshow…. it is wonderful….. I’m really moved! Thank you…… only those who can photograph emotions in this way, who can make them look exactly like they were at that moment… to capture them in all their beauty… well… those who can do this through their work, are qualified to be called a photographer. And you are, indeed, you are. I hope and wish you so much luck because you deserve it, you have worked so much in recent years to improve and indeed, congratulations.”

Well, I have to be touched by this message that I received a few minutes after delivering the work!

I just couldn’t say no to this kind of new adventure! The last time I was in Venice I was very young, so before I met the couple I decided to have a trip around Venice in order to discover the city from a photographic point of view. It’s not in my habit to check the city out before a photo shoot, but since it had passed quite a long time from my first time in Venice I thought it was necessary to find the most picturesque location of the city, less beaten by the tourists! Unlike most of my photo shoots, I’ve spent the entire day with the couple, we traveled far and wide throughout the city, from San Marco Square to the Rialto Bridge, finishing our tour by boat. The day was so magical I cannot wait to go back to Venice, maybe this time as a wedding photographer, who knows!

It was now several months since I had a “Save the Date” photo shoot, I must say I always have fun when I do it.

Giulia and Lorenzo have decided to have their photo shoot by the sea in Marina di Bibbona. A beautiful beach within the Natural Biogenetic Tomboli Reserve, one of the most beautiful settings I have worked for. It was a fantastic day without too much sun and with a surreal atmosphere. The beach is pristine, logs brought from the sea remain on the sand throughout the year and often people make with them little huts. It is a fascinating place that seems just made for our photo shooting.
